A Panchayat is a body of elected public representatives responsible for managing the administration of Panchayat Raj institutions. For a Grama Panchayat, it is the primary committee that implements the decisions of the Grama Sabha and carries out day-to-day administration.The key components of a Panchayat are:President: The head of the Panchayat. They preside over meetings and oversee the overall activities of the Panchayat.Vice President: Takes charge of duties in the absence of the President.Ward Members: Representatives elected from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees: Sub-committees formed to streamline decision-making in areas such as Finance, Development, Welfare, and Health & Education.

History of Grama Panchayat

Geographically lying in the midlands, Uzhavoor Grama Panchayat spans across the villages of Monipally and Uzhavoor. Currently, it consists of 14 wards, including 8 wards reserved for women and 1 ward reserved for the Scheduled Castes. Uzhavoor is a beautiful landscape comprising high hills, knolls, plains, and streams. It is believed that the name Uzhavoor originated from the meaning "the land of plowers" or "the land of farmers." Covering an area of 26.67 sq. km, this panchayat slopes towards the west.
