History of Grama Panchayat

Geographically lying in the midlands, Uzhavoor Grama Panchayat spans across the villages of Monipally and Uzhavoor. Currently, it consists of 14 wards, including 8 wards reserved for women and 1 ward reserved for the Scheduled Castes. Uzhavoor is a beautiful landscape comprising high hills, knolls, plains, and streams. It is believed that the name Uzhavoor originated from the meaning "the land of plowers" or "the land of farmers." Covering an area of 26.67 sq. km, this panchayat slopes towards the west.

Two major hills, Idakkoli Mala and Aanakkallumala, are located in this panchayat. Idakkoli Mala is situated in such a way that from its high elevation, one can view the entire low-lying regions of the Kottayam district. Although both are large hill ranges, these areas are inhabited regions equipped with transportation and drinking water facilities.

According to the 2011 Census, the population of Uzhavoor Grama Panchayat is 14,339. The sex ratio aligns with the state average. The people of Uzhavoor are highly advanced in the field of education. Residents of Uzhavoor work in various foreign countries, including European nations and the United States of America, as well as in many states across India. This has brought significant changes to the economic status of Uzhavoor. However, this large-scale migration has set back the growth of the agricultural sector. As seen everywhere, the spread of nuclear families and the decline in the number of children pose major challenges at the primary school level. Overall, the people of Uzhavoor maintain very good health standards.
